With Andor’s premier creeping closer, it’s hard not to wonder who might show up in the series. With the reveal that Hera Syndulla is going to be in the Ahsoka series, our own Meg Dowell discussed the possibilities of seeing Hera in Andor earlier this week. I wanted to follow in her footsteps to talk about another group of people who could make an appearance and that is other Fulcrum agents.
“Fulcrum” was the code word for a network of spies that worked for the Rebellion. In Clone Wars season seven, it was a subspace communications network used by Anakin Skywalker to keep in confidential contact with people like Saw Gerrera. Ahsoka Tano used this network to reach out to him prior to the Siege of Mandalore.
Later after the events of Order 66, Ahsoka took over Bail Organa’s intelligence network and adopted the name “Fulcrum” for herself. She would use this well into the years that Star Wars Rebels takes place to secretly call the Ghost crew. The title of Fulcrum was first used in Rebels and others would pick up the mantle like Agent Alexsandr Kallus after he turned against the Empire.
The Star Wars: Rogue One: The Ultimate Visual Guide confirmed that Cassian Andor was also a Fulcrum agent. As it has been discussed before over here on Dork Side of the Force, it would be awesome to see more about the day-to-day life of Cassian as Fulcrum to get more information about this group of spies.
But how likely is it for the other Fulcrums to show up in Andor?
I do think if we see any of these characters, it probably won’t be until season two. To speculate, season one is more than likely going to focus on Cassian’s journey up until he joined the Rebellion. It’ll more than likely set up his history and work on his own against the Empire. ComicBook.com has confirmed that season two is covering a four-year gap leading up to Rogue One, so if I had to guess, that is more than likely Cassian’s timeline working for the Rebels. I believe if we see any of the other known Fulcrum characters, it will be in the second season.
Ahsoka
Ahsoka is the character I go back and forth on whether or not she will show up in Andor. On one hand, they have her actress cast and Lucasfilm has not shied away from dropping her into an episode of The Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett. On the other hand, with the Ahsoka show coming as well as Tales of the Jedi, an animated series that Ahsoka is confirmed to be in, there is a real threat of the over-saturation of Ahsoka Tano. Still, Ahsoka is a fan-favorite character. Putting her in Andor could pay off.
Andor seems to take place well before the events of the Ahsoka series. Though granted, we don’t know at this time when Ahsoka is set. There could be flashbacks in her show to earlier events. Lucasfilm might want to save a potential meeting with Cassian for Ahsoka and not Andor.
It’s hard to tell if the company wants to hold back Ahsoka for her own series or if they want to use her as a cameo in Andor to promote her show. If I had to make a guess, I feel like at this point they would save her until later and we probably won’t see Ahsoka in Andor. But I’ve been wrong before so we’ll have to see.
Agent Kallus
I feel like Kallus has much more freedom than Ahsoka to bring into Andor. He doesn’t have an upcoming show to worry about using the character too much.
As I said, season two would be the time they would probably use Kallus if they choose to go that route. It would be great for his character too. One of my criticisms of season four of Rebels is Kallus and Zeb both get sidelined for a chunk of the season. Kallus left the Empire, but we didn’t get to see much of his atonement. Very few characters hold him accountable for his past deeds like murdering civilians and participating in the genocide of Lasan.
Rogue One opens with Cassian, a hero, murdering his contact. He’s supposed to be the good guy. Having two characters like Cassian and Kallus on screen together reckoning with the horrific deeds of their past could be very compelling. These two probably have more in common than most.
Also, it could possibly mean we get live-action Zeb too. I’d be fascinated to see how they create a Lasat in real life.
New Fulcrum agents
Another possibility is the introduction of new Fulcrum agents. As Cassian joins the ranks of the Rebels, it would make sense that he would run into other spies like him. This could be a tense scenario. Perhaps Cassian wouldn’t know whether or not he could trust a new person. It could be an Imperial spy trying to find him or they could be on the same side. That would make for some great television.
With so many new characters coming to the series, any of them could end up being a Fulcrum agent. Maybe even Mon Mothma takes up the mantle at some point.
The possibility of seeing the Fulcrum Trio of Cassian, Ahsoka, and Kallus is something that I would love. Granted, I’ve been a fan for years of the artist JuicySpaceSecrets that has been drawing the antics of the Fulcrum Trio and their office adventures for quite some time. I think the chances of getting all three of them together in the same room are slim, but I would lose my mind if it actually happened.
Regardless, Andor is less than a month away so we’ll have to see how it all plays out.
Star Wars: Andor will premiere its first three episodes September 21 exclusively on Disney+.
