Star Wars: The High Republic Phase II is less than a month away. News about the upcoming Disney+ series The Acolyte set in the same time period added to the ever-chugging along hype train for this new and exciting era of Star Wars.
As reported by Deadline, actress Jodie Turner-Smith seems to be on the verge of joining The Acolyte. Their sources state that Turner-Smith is in the process of finalizing a deal. Though, it’s important to note that it is not a confirmation as both the actress and Lucasfilm declined to comment on this.
If this pans out to be true, Turner-Smith would join Amandla Stenberg (The Hate U Give) who has already been cast in the lead role of director Leslye Headland’s (Russian Doll) thriller series. Details for the show are heavily under wraps with filming set to start this fall. With both Disney+ Day and D23 this week, we’ll probably get a confirmation sooner rather than later.
Jodie Turner-Smith has made a name for herself in the indie scene with films like After Yang and Queen & Slim. She’s been a powerhouse on television in shows like True Blood, Nightflyers, and most recently as the title character in AMC+’s Anne Boleyn. The galaxy far, far away is truly about to be blessed with this talented person if the news around Turner-Smith is confirmed.
The High Republic has been a fantastic era of Star Wars taking place over 200 years before the events of The Phantom Menace. Launched in January of 2021 with Charles Soule’s Light of the Jedi, it shows the Jedi in their golden age and their downfall into the prequel trilogy. The Acolyte is set at the end of the High Republic as the Dark Side is beginning to emerge as ominous secrets and mysteries are revealed.
Keep an eye on Dork Side of the Force for all of our upcoming coverage with Disney+ Day and D23 this week.
