A new animated Star Wars TV show is coming to Disney+ this fall — and no, we’re not talking about The Bad Batch Season 2 (yet).
Earlier this year, Dave Filoni announced a new series he’d been developing called Tales of the Jedi. The series of animated shorts were originally announced to debut on Disney+ in the fall of 2022 but didn’t come with an official release date until now.
According to the announcement made today at D23, Tales of the Jedi will release this October.
The first episode of the series, featuring young Ahsoka Tano on her home planet, first premiered at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim earlier this year for panel attendees. Future episodes will feature Ahsoka and Dooku at various points along their character journeys in the Star Wars timeline.
Tales of the Jedi includes six short episodes total and will all drop on the same day, similar to the way Visions was released in the fall of 2021.
If this series does well, it’s only a matter of time before more animated anthology series like it and similar to Visions will become a regular part of the annual Disney+ Star Wars release schedule. It doesn’t do anyone any good to have large gaps between releases, and short series like these are the perfect opportunity to keep fans engaged between larger television projects.
Star Wars fans will finally get to see Ahsoka Tano in animated form again — hopefully that will be enough to hold everyone over until the live-action Ahsoka series premieres next year.
All episodes of Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi will release on October 26, 2022 exclusively on Disney+.
