The Mandalorian‘s season 3 trailer shows a ton of great scenes, and it seems we may finally get some answers on what exactly happened to Mandalore during the Imperial occupation.
We especially see Bo-Katan Kryze in a broken dome-like structure and inside a fragmented room. Many historic events have happened in this room and in this city, the city of Sundari.
This room is even conveniently the cover picture for the trailer on the official Disney+ trailer.
Why is Sundari important to Mandalore?
Sundari was the capital of Mandalore through the entirety of the Clone Wars and would continue to be at the beginning of the Galactic Civil War. The surface of Mandalore has been turned into an arid almost wastelandic desert, and because of this Sundari was completely enclosed inside of a bio-dome. The strategic importance of Sundari is two-fold. As the capital, it is one of the largest cities and spaceports on the planet, and it also holds one of the largest beskar mines on the planet as a source of commerce.
What has happened in the Mandalorian throne room?
The throne room has held a number of epic (and mostly tragic) moments. It was where Death Watch frequently attack Duchess Satine, and where the Duchess ruled until she was forced out of power by Darth Mauls Shadow Collective. As the ultimate punishment for Obi-Wan, this is also the site where Maul executes Satine to grieve Obi-Wan. That rebellion leads to the fight before Palpatine, Savage Oppress, and Darth Maul where Maul loses his brother, Savage.
That would seem like a lot, and that’s only half of it. At the end of the Clone Wars, the throne room is the scene of the duel between Ahsoka Tano and Darth Maul where she finally captures him. After Order 66 former Maul super-commando Gar Saxon would use Sundari as his capital during his role as the governor of Mandalore. Bo-Katan attacked Sundari as a member of the Death Watch, she attacked it alongside Ahsoka Tano, and she attacked it alongside Sabine Wren once again when Gar Saxon was finally defeated.
Now Bo-Katan sits on the throne of her dead sister and in the broken shell of a city that she has fought so much for during her life.
