Lucasfilm took the stage at Disney’s D23 and wasn’t short of upcoming content to get the fans excited.
Disney’s D23 Expo has just wrapped up from the weekend and there was plenty for fans to leave satisfied with. The joint panel for both Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm kicked off Saturday morning with Kathleen Kennedy taking the stage.
We were treated to the cast of the upcoming series Andor taking the stage to prepare us for what is to come on September 21st when the show premiers on Disney+. The show is confirmed for two seasons 12 episodes each taking place from 5 years before the events of Rogue One up until the film. They announced that production for season 2 is beginning and also shared a brand new trailer that showcased some very tense moments from the upcoming season.
Jon Favreau took to the stage to discuss the series Ahsoka and shared some exciting casting announcements and stills. Jon discussed how this would be Dave Filloni’s “Magnum Opus” and how bringing this character to life was a special experience for all involved. Seeing Ahsoka in Mandalorian was what gave them the confidence to bring her to life in her very own series. There was no trailer shown to fans however, we do know that Sabine, Chopper, and Hera will all be a part of this series. Not only that but we will be treated to Hayden returning as Anakin Skywalker! Natasha Liu will be playing Sabine and Rosario Dawson will be back as Ahsoka. It is rumored that Eman Esfandi will be taking on the mantle of Ezra Bridger!
We finally then got to hear when the second season of The Bad Batch will be airing! Fans have been left in the dark as to whether it was still releasing in September and can finally rest. Season two will premiere on January 4th and will consist of 16 episodes. The premier will feature 2 episodes and will release weekly afterward.
Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi was showcased as it will consist of six stories focusing on Count Dooku, Qui-Gon Jinn, and Ahsoka. It will show them at various points in their lives as the animated show has been highly anticipated for a while now. It will premiere on October 26th.
Of course, headlining the panel is none other than everyone’s favorite duo, The Mandalorian season 3 was announced and a trailer was shown. The tagline heading into this season is ” You are a Mandalorian no more.” As we see in the trailer Bo Katan is out for revenge and fans will be treated to some beautiful cinematic imagery as well as returning to the home planet Mandalore. While no official word was given, it is rumored that the season will release in February of 2023.
