Theory: Bo-Katan is on Krownest in The Mandalorian Season 3
By Kieran Burt
The Mandalorian season three trailer gave audiences a look at what will be happening in the new season, and it featured a lot in a short space of time. But one character that got an extensive look is Bo Katan, and it seems that she is making the turn into an antagonist. For a large part of the trailer, Bo Katan is seen in some kind of palace, and is even seen on a throne, fashioning herself as some kind of ruler. But where is this palace? It could possibly be on Mandalore, though this theory will suggest that Bo Katan has set up on the planet Krownest.
What is Krownest?
Krownest is a planet in the Mandalorian sector of space, and is the home of Clan Wren. It has a cold, snowy climate with mountainous regions. The planet can be first seen in Star Wars Rebels episode titled Legacy of Mandalore, midway through season three.
Why is Bo Katan on Krownest?
During The Mandalorian season two, Bo Katan mentions the need to build a fleet to retake Mandalore. To this end, she captures an Imperial Gozanti-class cruiser on Trask, and Moff Gideon’s Imperial Arquitens-class light cruiser. Both ships could form part of a larger makeshift fleet around Krownest. Krownest would make a perfect staging area, as it’s close to Mandalore.
Turning back to the trailer, as previously mentioned Bo Katan is already attempting to fashion herself as a ruler. But she doesn’t have the Darksaber, so it would be extremely bold to try and claim the Mandalorian throne this early. It’s more likely that Bo Katan commands forces already loyal to her, and are preparing their attack on a planet close to Mandalore. Koska Reeves, a Mandalorian that appears in season 2 of The Mandalorian, is a member of the Nite Owls, an elite unit that Bo Katan has led since she was in Deathwatch. It’s likely there are other members of this unit who would remain loyal to Bo Katan.
One of these members is Ursa Wren, the leader of Clan Wren and mother of Sabine Wren. It’s probable that she is still alive at this point, and that she would grant Bo Katan use of her palace and planet as a staging ground. The architecture of the palace that Bo Katan is in looks similar to the home of Clan Wren in Rebels, with both buildings also the colour white. While the long hall that leads to Bo Katan’s throne isn’t present in Rebels, the palace could have been extended in the years after, especially if it were hosting a large contingent of Mandalorians and a hopeful ruler. It might also be chalked down to adaptation differences, as the planet and palace are likely to undergo changes from animation to live-action, as is common. The same can be said about the weather. In The Mandalorian season 3 trailer, it’s raining on the planet where Bo Katan is, which can be put down to changes from animation to live action.
The Mandalorian season two, The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi have featured several elements from animation, so it’s likely that The Mandalorian season three will continue to pull from the animated series to inform its storytelling. If this is indeed Krownest, audiences might get an appearance from Ursa Wren, as well as one from Sabine. Rebels shows Sabine having a reverence for Bo Katan, so it’s easy to think that she would join her. Sabine Wren will appear in the upcoming Ahsoka series, played by Natasha Liu Bordizzo, and it’s possible she might also appear in The Mandalorian season three.
Krownest would make the perfect location for Bo Katan to reside, and it provides a close staging ground to Mandalore, is the home of allies, and would fit the trend of animation being brought into live-action. While there are some discrepancies between what’s shown in the trailer and in animation, a long time has passed since audiences last saw Krownest, and it’s highly likely there will be changes to the planet if it does appear in live-action. Audiences will have to wait until The Mandalorian season three releases for confirmation on where Bo Katan resides.
