Andor episode 3: ‘Reckoning’ ending explained
Warning! Spoilers ahead for the third episode of Andor, “Reckoning.”
The latest live-action Star Wars series Andor has arrived on Disney+. The third episode, “Reckoning” saw Andor meet his buyer who turned out to be much more than he seemed.
The third episode was, indeed, a reckoning–let’s unpack the ending.
A New Adventure
As Pre-Mor Corpos descended on his home to hunt him down, Cassian met with his buyer, Luthen (Stellan Skarsgard), who ended up having ulterior motives and revealed he knew much more about Andor than a stranger should.
Luthen subtly probed Andor about the Empire, suggesting how good it would feel to “fight them for real” just as they had to flee. The two quickly formed a working partnership that foreshadows and cements Andor’s belonging with the Rebellion.
The flashbacks in “Reckoning” once again tie into the present, revealing how Maarva (Fiona Shaw) came to be Cassian’s guardian. After a poisoned Imperial crew crashed into Kenari and killed one of his friends and several of the other children, Cassian found their ship and started to destroy it.
When Maarva found him, she knew he wouldn’t survive the aftermath and took him into her care. This relationship is the main family Andor had after losing his sister and was also his first taste of a world outside of his home.
The final sequence intercuts a young Cassian on Maarva’s ship and the present-day Cassian in Luthen’s, both of them heading to face their destiny in worlds unknown.
Cassian’s home and heart are on Kenari and are what he fights for. Yet, it’s clear he was always meant to leave for a found family and bigger cause, one that he’ll be joining in the coming episodes.
Andor is available to stream on Disney Plus.
