Andor season 1, episode 3 recap: Leave it all behind
By Meg Dowell
WARNING: The following contains SPOILERS for Andor Season 1, Episode 3.
Cassian may be in danger, and he knows it.
As Bix and Luthen discuss the ongoing search for the Kenari man that fits Cassian’s description, Mosk and his men descend onto Ferrix to intensify their search.
Flashback: Kenari. Young Cassian boards the crashed ship and, wishing to take his anger out on something, begins destroying everything in sight. Enter Maarva, who expected to be able to scavenge some valuable items from the crash but definitely did not expect a child to beat her to it. Not wanting to leave him behind in case he bears the wrath of whoever might be on the approaching Republic ships, she sedates him and carries him away.
As Luthen finally meets up with Cassian, guards storm into Maarva’s house with a warrant in search of her son. Cassian chooses that moment to contact B2EMO, and the men are able to race his location through the transmission.
In an abandoned factory, Luthen and Cassian argue about payment. Luthen offers to pay more to hear how Cassian aquired the Starpath, and it turns out the man knows a lot more about Cassian than Cassian wants him to. Luthen doesn’t like the way Cassian is trying to chip away at the Empire piece by piece, alone. He wants the man’s help. He assures Cassian that together, they could do more.
At the shop, Bix learns that Timm was the one who turned Cassian in — not long before she’s handcuffed and he is shot in the street. Luthen and Cassian manage to escape the surrounded factory, and the company loses far more men and resources than they bargained for. Someone’s going to be mad about that later.
As Cassian rides off on Luthen’s ship, one final flashback to Kenari shows Maarva loading a young Cassian onto her own ship with no regard to the family he might be leaving behind. Did she save his life? Maybe. But at what cost?
We may soon find out.
