The High Republic had a big showing at New York Comic Con. On Saturday, they hosted a panel with all of the creators from Phase II, moderated by Lucasfilm’s Michael Siglain. It started off by laying the groundwork for the books and comics we have in this Wave. However, it quickly moved to what is yet to come.

For comics news, Cavan Scott spoke a bit about the main The High Republic series from Marvel. It will be set on Jedha, and is planned to span 10 issues. Meanwhile, with Daniel José Older and The High Republic Adventures, it will follow Sav Malagán on Takodana. In addition to featuring the pirate queen Maz Kanada, it will also bring back everyone’s favorite cook: Dexster Jettster.

Claudia Gray has the one-shot entitled Quest of the Jedi coming from Dark Horse next year, which she described as feeling very “Arthurian”. Lastly for comics, we of course have The Blade by Charles Soule, a mini-series origin for Porter Engle along with his sister.

After that, we go a slew of book cover reveals for the next wave. The official art for Cataclysm and Path of Vengeance, the adult and YA books respectively, was revealed. In addition, we got a look at the preliminary cover for Quest for Planet X, which appears to bring us back to Black Spire Outpost based on the art.

Fans of the Edge of Balance manga from Phase I may have been confused when they were left with a “to be continued” page last May. However, it has now been confirmed that we will be getting a volume set in Phase II from creators Daniel José Older and Tomio Ogata. This will follow the familiar wookiee Jedi Arkoff, albeit much younger.

Charles Soule then hit us with a surprise reveal. He brought his daughter, Rosemary (Rosie) Soule, on stage to announce their joint project Yoda and the Younglings, coming in Fall 2023. The cover featured Burryaga and Yoda, and is a children’s book set before the events of Phase I.

The next new reveal is a welcome addition to the initiative. All of the authors are teaming up for an unnamed YA anthology book, releasing next summer. The stories will be spread throughout the three Phases. Anthologies are a staple of Star Wars publishing. However, this is the first one that is explicitly YA.

It is going to be a very busy year for The High Republic and its fans. With Phase II only consisting of two waves, we are looking at Phase III returning late 2023.
