At New York Comic Con 2022, Lucasflim Publishing announced a slew of new books and comics for the coming years. One of the books announced was a new novel by Delilah S. Dawson titled Star Wars Inquisitor: Rise of the Red Blade. On the cover is a red woman who might not be familiar to many Star Wars fans.

StarWars.com gave us a sneak peek at the premise:

“One of the panel’s biggest announcements, Rise of the Red Blade will tell the story of Iskat, a Jedi survivor of Order 66 that turns to the dark side, joining the Inquisitors with the hope of uncovering the truth about her past. Iskat’s hunt begins when Rise of the Red Blade arrives in 2023.”

While this is the first time we’ve gotten an official name for this person, we’ve actually seen Iskat before.

Iskat’s first appearance is in 2017’s comic run of Darth Vader by Charles Soule. While I won’t spoil the entire story, because this comic run is some of Soule’s best work, Iskat was an Imperial Inquisitor that worked with other Dark Siders we’ve seen before like the Grand Inquisitor, the Seventh Sister, and the Fifth Brother from Star Wars Rebels. She was part of the hunt for Jadi Master Eeth Koth who was in hiding from the Empire. Also, Iskat had a particular bond with a currently unnamed Twi’lek Inquisitor.

Rise of the Red Blade could give us a fantastic opportunity to fully see the inner workings of the Inquisitorius. We’ve gotten hints through shows like Obi-Wan Kenobi, the game Jedi: Fallen Order, and of course Soule’s comics which showcased the earliest days of the Empire’s transition. By the time Star Wars Rebels comes around, the Inquisitorius is fully established.

I also hope we get to have time with every single member of the evil organization. Reva from Kenobi would be a strong choice for a supporting role to help flesh out her character from the series. As the Grand Inquisitor is one of my personal favorite characters in Star Wars, I am always happy for more content with him. Trilla from Jedi: Fallen Order would be another excellent addition. Honestly, I adore all of the Inquisitorius. I could list a reason for wanting to see every single one of them.

But mainly what I want is a name for that Twi’lek Inquisitor. Without spoilers, his relationship with Iskat is very interesting in Darth Vader. I absolutely need those details, because there is a lot of story to be told there. Honestly, if the entire book is about him and Iskat, I’ll be one happy camper.

We’ll have to wait until 2023 to find out Iskat’s story. But until then, go pick up Darth Vader by Charles Soule for a sneak peek of who this kick-butt lady is.

Star Wars Inquisitor: Rise of the Red Blade will be released on July 18, 2023.
