Andor: Who plays Ruescott Melshi?
Rogue One fans rejoiced with the return of Sergeant Ruescott Melshi in Andor. But who plays Melshi and how did he get the role?
Melshi is played by actor Duncan Pow who actually didn’t start in Rogue One as part of the cast. In fact, he was working as a member of the crew. He spoke on Everything Geek Podcast talking about the process:
"“I started working on the production a long time before they even started casting. Just assisting really with all sorts of different things like with screen tests and auditions and all sorts of stuff. As everything progressed, I was eventually offered the part of Sergeant Melshi. I would say that a lot of people might not do the things that I do. Sometimes, I think you should say yes to everything in life. Well, just about everything. I think sometimes you are afforded opportunities in a mystic sort of a way. I think that everything that happened with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story with the casting from the start, I feel like it was a series of events that were all linked together which culminated in me being in something that I’ve been watching since I was a kid. Star Wars was the first film I went to see in the cinema. The Empire Strikes Back in fact. Here I am years and years and years later in one of them. I’m a firm believer that life is a dream. And if life is a dream, we should dream big dreams for ourselves, because anything is possible.”"
He goes on to talk more about his love of Star Wars. It’s a great interview you should go check out.
Duncan Pow is best known for his work on the BBC medical drama series Holby City and the Sky 1 drama Dream Team. He has also made appearances in Black Mirror, Halo, 24: Live Another Day, and La Fortuna.
It’s such a joy to have Pow’s return to Star Wars. Melshi is such an important character to Cassian in Rogue One. I’m excited for Andor to explore how their friendship grows over time.
