Did you know this about the Rogue One soundtrack?
One of my favorite anecdotes about Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is that composer Michael Giacchino had alternate names of track titles for the movie’s soundtrack. This is very much a signature of his as he loves puns and funny track names in his scores. He’s done this for other films like Ratatouille, 2009’s Star Trek, Zootopia, and Doctor Strange.
Rogue One was no exception. Giacchino released the alternate names in the liner notes when the soundtrack came out. Some of these are hilarious while others make me groan, amused by the puns. I tweeted the full list on my Twitter account because I adore this album so much.
“That New Death Star Smell” and “Bazed and Confused” will never cease to get a chuckle out of me.
As I stated in the tweet, I do wish this tradition was carried over to Andor’s soundtrack. Granted, Andor does have a different composer with Nicholas Britell leading the series’ absolutely amazing score. Still, it would have been a fun tie-in back with the movie that originally started Cassian’s journey.
For fun in our Slack chat for Dork Side of the Force, we tossed around our ideas for alternate track titles for Andor. Some of these are based on the track names already released while others were possible themes and suites we might get later. They amused me so much that I wanted to share them with you:
- Syril’s Suite (Michael Myers’ new theme)
- Mon Mothma (“Mommy”)
- B2 (EMO music never died)
- Vel’s Suite (The D.I.N.K. aunt brought presents to Life Day dinner)
- The Cassian Way (“Stubborn with Trust Issues”)
- The Night Before (Life Day and all through the house)
- ISB (You should see a doctor for that)
- Luthen Rael (Secret Agent Man)
- Bix Caleen (The Bix is Back)
- Bix Has a Secret (And she will never tell until episode nine. THANKS DEDRA)
- Morlana Drop (The Beat)
- Kino’s Theme (Is that Snoke???)
These were a lot of fun to come up with and I hope you enjoyed them just as much as we did. I’m excited to hear the next wave of the Andor soundtrack when it’s released as season one wraps up.
Stay up to date on all of our Andor coverage here at Dork Side of the Force.
