Another new Star Wars story is coming in just a few weeks — and no, we’re not talking about Season 2 of The Bad Batch (though they do release only a day apart from one another). Nope — we’re talking about George Mann’s next High Republic adventure, The Battle of Jedha.
The audio drama, which will include a full cast and the music and sound effects Star Wars audiobooks are known for, is the next installment in The High Republic — a versatile publishing initiative that includes adult, young adult and middle-grade books, comics, manga, picture books, short stories, and even audio dramas.
This story, which takes place after the events of Star Wars: Convergence, focuses on the Festival of Balance, a Jedha festival that invites all who study the Force to gather in one central place. But several Jedi have been sent to the world to formally end the war between Eiram and E’ronoh., and not everyone is happy about it.
The audio drama is a lot shorter than a standard Star Wars audiobook — at 5 hours and 28 minutes total according to Audible. But just because it’s quick doesn’t mean it won’t captivate you instantly and hold you all the way through to the end.
There’s a lot of High Republic content on the way this upcoming year — including the end of Phase II and the launch of Phase III sometime in the fall of 2023. A YA short story anthology set in the High Republic, which hasn’t been done as part of this initiative before (only the Star Wars Insider short stories have been compiled into a collection so far) is also slated for the fall.
So if you love this era of Star Wars storytelling, don’t worry. There’s plenty more to come.
The High Republic: The Battle of Jedha releases January 3, 2023.
