Star Wars The Old Republic director thanks players for 11 years of SWTOR
By Meg Dowell
Over 10 years ago, in a galaxy not so far away, a new online gaming experience emerged for gamers and Star Wars fans everywhere: Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Since the game’s launch, a number of storylines, characters, technical updates, and more have been added to improve the SWTOR experience and further broaden the ever-growing universe of Star Wars.
Project Director Keith Kanneg published an update on the game’s 11th anniversary to thank the players who have kept the multiplayer experience going for over a decade.
“Every year that passes, I am amazed by the work that has gone into Star Wars: The Old Republic,” he wrote. “Today, we have hit our 11 year anniversary, and I have been reflecting on everything that transpired throughout the year.”
This year alone, SWTOR has undergone a number of updates, and even launched “Legacy of the Sith,” the game’s eighth expansion to date. And judging by the prolonged and ongoing success of the game over the past 11 years, that expansion will be far from the last.
Kanneg finished out his post by sharing a few updates on what’s currently happening in the game — but also took the time to share his gratitude for all the team and community have managed to accomplish over the years.
“A lot of changes happened this year, and many times the unknown can be intimidating and scary, but the SWTOR team was able to adapt and truly strive forward with meaning and purpose… Thank you all for coming along this journey with us, and thank you for playing Star Wars: The Old Republic.”
So take some time this holiday season — especially the mostly nonexistent week between Christmas and New Year’s — to enjoy some increased XP, sales on those items you’ve been wanting to purchase all year, and more.
Star Wars: The Old Republic is available to download and play now.
