Star Wars Jedi Survivor will introduce a new character into Cal’s world
By Meg Dowell
The upcoming game from Respawn and Electronic Arts, Star Wars Jedi Survivor, will include a mix of characters old and new — and Cal’s relationship with a new face to the franchise will become an essential part of his story.
Bode Akuna, a mercenary, will be a new addition to the game’s list of characters when the game releases in March 2023.
“[Akuna] and Cal form a special bond” throughout the game, Game Director Stig Asmussen told Game Informer. “It’s almost like they’re brothers. They’re not exactly the same, but they really do complement each other.”
It’s been a few years since the first game released, and five years will have passed between the end of Fallen Order and the beginning of Jedi: Survivor. While not much is known about the plot at this time, it’s clear the game’s developers have big plans for building out this largely unexplored part of the Star Wars timeline.
Adding new characters to the franchise is a great way both to draw players into the story and leave room for further expanding upon the backstories and futures of other characters in different mediums. Cal Kestis and his crew have become beloved characters among fans — Disney is even making Cal’s lightsaber available to purchase at the parks. This and other new characters will serve both to enrich Cal’s story and continue to expand the ever-growing Star Wars universe.
Also in March, Star Wars will release a novel focused on the characters involved in the franchise. Battle Scars will take place between Fallen Order and Survivor and could include, similar to the upcoming game, a combination of familiar and new characters essential to the development of Cal’s story.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor releases on Xbox, PlayStation and PC on March 17, 2023.
