Though it was first announced over two years ago, we still don’t know much about Leslye Headland-created Star Wars series The Acolyte. That’s probably because none of the cast are actually allowed to talk about it yet.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Amandla Stenberg basically dodged every Star Wars-related question, as one does when it’s too early to talk about an ongoing project. But the excitement is real, and it’s something the actor has dreamed of for a long time.
Rumor has it that Lucasfilm knew they wanted Stenberg in the show’s leading role from the very beginning. The actor couldn’t confirm this — or wasn’t sure whether or not they could. But they told THR “It was a very astounding moment for me” when discussing officially joining the franchise.
When Stenberg officially confirmed their involvement with The Acolyte, the announcement included a photo of them when they were younger — and it immediately became clear that Star Wars has been part of their life for years.
Although we know the series’ plot will revolve around the Sith — in Star Wars, an acolyte is generally a student of Sith or dark-side teachings — most details are still under wraps. We do know, however, that the series is expected to take place sometime near the end of The High Republic era. Whether or not this means High Republic characters from the books will appear in the show is yet to be determined.
Stenberg did mention they’re living the dream “surrounded by aliens all day. It’s pretty surreal.” So at least we know the show will likely have more aliens than Andor. (Maybe.)
Star Wars: The Acolyte is expected to release on Disney+ sometime in 2023.
