Star Wars legend Mark Hamill is no stranger to sharing what he thinks of current-day politics, both domestically and abroad. More so, he’s not afraid to do what he can to help those in need. He may not be able to use the Force or wield a lightsaber for good to triumph over evil, but he can use his status to help raise funds so light can overcome darkness.

Mark Hamill Continues to Help Ukraine

According to Variety, he hasn’t signed items related to the franchise since his Star Wars: The Last Jedi press tour in 2017. He announced in a Politico interview that he will be signing a limited edition of Star Wars posters to help raise money for Ukraine. The money will specifically go towards maintaining the Ukrainian army’s drone supply in their ongoing war against Russia. Telling Politico, Mark Hamill said:

"We decided to sign Star Wars posters, a limited amount, for real hardcore collectors—especially those that have disposable income—you can get way more money… than you would imagine."

Ukraine’s fight against Russia echoes the themes of Star Wars—doing the right thing for the good of everyone. And while Hamill is using his fame from the space franchise, he’s careful not to use it to mask the horrors Ukrainians face day to day.

"One is really a fairy tale for children, originally that’s what Star Wars was. And the reality, the stark reality of what’s going on in Ukraine, is harrowing."

Hamill believes deeply in the drone program that Ukraine is using as part of its defense, saying, “Anything I can do [for Ukraine], however small it is, is something I feel obligated to do… Drones are so vital in this conflict. They are the eyes in the sky. They protect the border, they monitor.”

And it’s not the first time the actor has lent his status to Ukraine and their drones. Back in September, Mark Hamill was named an ambassador of Ukraine’s Army of Drones project. The country’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said the following about Hamill becoming an ambassador:

"Mark, you have become the first ambassador to help Ukraine raise funds to support its defenders. For Ukrainians, this means a lot. As in Star Wars, good will triumph over evil and light will overcome darkness. With you in the team, there’s no other way around it."

Posters are expected to go up for sale this week.
