The Mandalorian has become a sensation ever since the premiere of Season 1 on November 12th, 2019. Since then, the show has broken viewership records for Disney+. It’s been nominated for a whopping 39 Emmy awards and bagged 14 of them. But up till now, the viewership of the show has been limited to subscribers of Disney+. However, that’s about to change. A few months ago, Andor’s first two episodes aired on Broadcast and Cable TV over Thanksgiving.
Now, in a similar move, The Mandalorian’s first episode will premiere February 24th at 8pm on ABC, FX and Freeform. This information comes from Gizmodo.com and it’s important to note that as of now, Disney has no plans of airing the second episode or even the entire first season on broadcast TV. Airing the first episode on February 24th is likely a strategy to help them grab new viewers in time for Season 3. Anyone who gets hooked to the show from its first episode, something which is hardly out of the realm of possibilities, may be tempted to buy a subscription to Disney+, and watch Seasons 1 and 2 before Season 3 drops on March 1st. If cute Grogu merchandise wasn’t enough to lure you in, Disney is planning to entice you with the first episode now!
Only Disney+ is aware of the data and how Andor’s television premiere may have helped the series’ numbers overall, but if the latest news is anything to go by, it’s likely that they’ve had a positive result for Andor and now the same can be expected for The Mandalorian as well.
Just to refresh your memory, The Mandalorian Chapter 1 is when viewers were first introduced to the mysterious bounty hunter, Din Djarin, and watched him as he made his way to Arvala-7 to locate his 50 year old bounty. The one he was in search of turned out to be a child of Yoda’s species, and the rest as they say, is history. The little green guy stole fans’ hearts at first sight and Din Djarin soon found himself unable to resist his adorable companion as well. The Mandalorian helped launch Disney+ and has become the most popular and profitable Star Wars product in years.
Loyal fans of the show have been looking forward to Season 3 ever since the second season ended in December 2020. The Mandalorian Season 3 premieres March 1st on Disney+, and it will make its broadcast television debut with Chapter 1 on February 24th.
