WARNING: The following contains SPOILERS for The Bad Batch Season 2, Episode 7: “Clone Conspiracy.”

We once again find ourselves on the always-busy cityscape planet of Coruscant. Two clones are in a cantina discussing their roles in the Empire as if there’s no possibility someone might be listening in on their conversation.

One of the clones, Cade, confesses to the other, Slip, that he knows what really happened on Kamino. If no one else is going to speak up, he wants to be the one to tell the senate the truth.

Before he can get too far from the cantina, however, he’s taken out by an assassin. Now Slip is the only one who knows the truth … and he’s in danger of being silenced too.

Meanwhile, the senate is in session, and Rampart has openly proposed his recruitment bill to grow the Empire’s military. Senators Bail Organa and Senator Chuchi are quite vocal with their concerns — Chuchi especially wants to know why the clones aren’t being taken care of, especially considering they’ll age out of service quite quickly.

Chuchi promises the clones she’ll do what she can to protect them and their rights. That’s when Slip catches her attention and tells her what he knows — that Kamino’s destruction wasn’t due to a storm but was destroyed at Rampart’s command.

He tells her where to find the proof she needs to bring Rampart down, but the assassin stops him from feeding her any more info. Captain Rex swoops in at the last minute to save her, stunning the assassin before he can end her life.

They take the assassin to an abandoned garage (hey Martez sisters) and try to get him to confess to whom he’s working for. He sneers an ominous “I’m a believer” before biting down and ending his own life (we saw an Imperial officer do the same thing in The Mandalorian episode “The Heiress”).

Now they have no way of knowing why one clone would willingly assassinate his brothers … or who would convince (or program) him to do so.

But they do still know how to show the Senate who Rampart really is.
