WARNING: The following contains SPOILERS for The Bad Batch Season 2, Episode 9: “The Crossing.”

Clone Force 99 — what’s left of it anyway (too soon?) — travels to yet another planet to extract dangerous material from one of Cid’s mines. It’s going to make someone a lot of money, but of course it’s highly explosive as a result. This is not going to end badly at all, surely.

At first, things seem to be going according to plan. The group successfully extracts some of the mineral from the mine, and Omega does a great job. But while Wrecker is keeping watch, someone steals their ship. There seems to be no hope of getting it back.

As they begin traveling away from their original location, a stampede of local creatures catches them off guard and they lose their cargo (it explodes). A storm also forces them into another mine, and they find themselves trapped.

Omega is distraught that Echo is gone, and becomes even more upset when Tech doesn’t seem sympathetic to her struggle to adapt to change. She storms off, and Tech reluctantly follows her after he’s made aware of his error.

The two end up falling down a waterfall and, after surviving the traumatic moment together, have a heart to heart about the source of their fight. Tech explains that just because he doesn’t express his emotions or react the same way to losing Echo as Omega did doesn’t mean he doesn’t care.

He tells her that everyone processes change differently, and that they will always be able to get through it as a team.

Together, the group is able to escape the mine and travel the remaining distance to what appears to be the nearest settlement. It’s abandoned, but not all hope is yet lost.

In the final moments of the episode, the squad realizes they may be able to restore their long-range communications after all … but it’s not going to be easy.
