Is there such thing as too much Star Wars?

Ten years ago fans of beloved franchises such as Star Wars and Marvel would have begged for as much content as possible.

However, recently there have been some across social media asking the question, is there simply such thing as too much?

Disney president Bob Iger spoke on February 8th and announced that they would be pumping the brakes a bit on the famed franchises. Iger noted that they needed to be “better at curating franchise content that is extraordinarily expensive. We want the quality that’s on the screen, but we have to look at what they cost.” Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios has already announced that they would be delaying some projects such as The Marvels and spacing out their content.

Is slowing content for Star Wars a smart move though? The last film to hit the big screen was Rise of Skywalker in 2019 and since then we’ve had only a few shows compared to Marvel. Some fans have expressed there isn’t enough Star Wars to fill their needs while others expressed concern over the quality of the content put out. Fans have been teased with directors such as Patty Jenkins, Taika Waititi, and Rian Johnson supposedly having films in the works but have been offered no further news on that front. Meanwhile this year we can expect Skeleton Key, Ashoka, The Bad Batch, and The Mandalorian to hit Disney+.

Observers have called it “a massive correction” compared to a few years ago. With animated films such as Lightyear under performing at the box office last year Iger has preached financial responsibility. With Star Wars Celebration London on the horizon we can be sure to expect announcements and exciting news to come out which can better help us understand the direction the company will be headed. Is slowing down the content we are hoping to get a good idea? Let us know in the comments below.
