Fans across the globe were devastated when officials announced Star Wars Celebration 2020 wouldn’t be happening. It took two years for the event to happen again — and it was then revealed another Celebration would take place in 2023.

Recently, StarWars.com hinted that after this year’s large event in London, Celebration will take a year off and return in 2025. But maybe that’s not such a bad thing … especially for those fortunate enough to attend in both 2022 and ’23.

While this wasn’t a big announcement released on its own — rather, it was embedded within a post on the official site about going to the event if you never have before — it’s more uplifting than disappointing to know there’s going to be a gap.

"“If you can’t join us this year, with the next Star Wars Celebration not taking place until 2025, you’ll have plenty of time to work on your cosplay, refine your Wookiee roar, and sharpen your lightsaber skills.”"

Star Wars Celebration is expensive — even if you life in the country where it’s hosted. Even if you life in the same state. By the time you purchase your ticket, hotel or other housing arrangements, and budget for transportation, food, and the vendor hall, you’re looking at dropping no less than $500 before you even get there. Many fans who travel to the event spend much more than that.

That doesn’t mean it isn’t worth it. But even if you’re not planning to cosplay, sell merchandise, or host a panel, a two-year gap means you will have extra time to plan, save, and get hyped for whatever 2025’s event might hold.

This will likely be the year we get the first  Star Wars movie since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker. It will be worth the wait.

Star Wars Celebration 2023 kicks off in London April 7 and runs through April 10. If you didn’t get your tickets or you’re skipping this round, don’t worry — there are plenty more Celebrations to be had in the years and decades to come!
