2. Lor San Tekka

With the introduction of the San Tekka family in The High Republic, some fans were not aware of the fact that we have already met one of their descendants. After the fall of the Empire, Lor San Tekka was an ally of Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa and he even helped Luke track down secret Jedi lore and artifacts that the Empire had tried to rid the galaxy of.

At the very beginning of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Poe Dameron has been sent by General Organa to track down Lor San Tekka on Jakku and to retrieve the map that he has which will lead them to Luke Skywalker’s hidden location on Ahch-Too. Poe Dameron arrives just in time to retrieve the map from San Tekka before Kylo Ren and the First Order’s forces arrive to decimate the village and kill San Tekka.

While San Tekka’s presence in The Force Awakens was short-lived, he does appear in a number of tie-in materials including in flashbacks in Charles Soule’s The Rise of Kylo Ren, as well as in the latter half of the Poe Dameron comic series. In The Rise of Kylo Ren, San Tekka’s connection to Ben Solo’s upbringing comes full circle with the brief exchange they had in The Force Awakens.
