24. Tup

On the topic of The Bad Batch, Tup is the reason that Rex knew to remove the behavioral modification biochips, which were causing the clones to be good soldiers who followed orders. During the Clone Wars, Tup’s chip was triggered, leading him to kill the Jedi General Tiplar. Prior to that, Fives had noticed that he was acting off, not to mention the headache he was dealing with, but he didn’t realize just how bad things were about to be.

Under orders by their financiers, the Kaminoans withheld vital information about the inhibitor chips and lied about Tup’s condition. They claimed that he had been exposed to a virus, which caused him to turn on the Jedi. Fives doubted this information and decided to perform his own brain scan on Tup, which revealed what he believed to be a brain tumor, not an inhibitor chip. Fives had the medical droid remove the tumor, which was revealed to be the inhibitor chip.

Following the procedure, Tup woke up and seemed to be alright, but he died shortly thereafter with Fives at his side. Tup’s death fueled Five’s investigation into the truth behind the chip, which ultimately assisted in Ahsoka removing Rex’s chip and Rex removing the Bad Batch’s chip and presumably other clones he encountered after Order 66.
