24 Star Wars characters only true fans will remember
5. Dash Rendar
Dash Rendar is another character who is mainly known for his appearances in Star Wars: Legends, but he was re-canonized in Jason Fry’s Solo: A Star Wars Story: Tales from Vandor, which was the first time he was mentioned in the current canon. He first appeared back in 1996 in the multimedia project Shadows of the Empire.
In the current canon, Dash Rendar was a dashing smuggler that encountered his fellow smuggler Han Solo and Chewbacca during his travels. Back in the Expanded Universe, Rendar had a similar story to Han Solo. He was a hot-shot pilot and smuggler born on Corellia and he even got his start in the Imperial Navy, like Solo. Rendar also got tangled up in the affairs of Emperor Palpatine when his family was blamed for a sabotage plot that led to the death of Dash’s older brother. As a result, Rendar’s family was exiled from the Core Worlds and Dash was booted from the Imperial Academy.
While the current Star Wars comic book canon has a different set of people tracking down the carbonized Han Solo, in Legends, Lando Calrissian hired Dash Rendar to find Han Solo and reclaim him from Boba Fett. He also had several encounters with the Black Sun syndicate, who have been brought into the new Star Wars canon in recent years. Perhaps there’s still a chance for Dash Rendar to make a big appearance in the present canon.
