It has been a great time for Star Wars  fans in the television universe with shows such as The Bad Batch and The Mandalorian dominating Disney+. However, it appears there’s still a bit of tire spinning when it comes to the film side of the house. It has long been announced that Patty Jenkins and the head of the MCU Kevin Feige would have Star Wars  films coming out in the future. Patty Jenkins particular story “Rogue Squadron”  kept seeing delay after delay and now it appears has been scrapped entirely.

According to a report from Variety both Feige and Jenkin’s upcoming films have been shelved entirely. Jenkins film was announced in 2020 with a December 2023 release. In summer of 2022 it was pulled from the release schedule entirely. Feige’s project was announced in 2019 and Michael Waldron was even writing the script. Both cancellations are sure to leave fans hopes dashed for what the future holds as far as theatrical releases hold.

It is not all bad news though, as Taika Waititi is still slated to direct and appear in his very own Star Wars film. We then also have Rian Johnson’s trilogy that was announced in 2017 which is still green lit as of today. There is still an open release date for December of 2025 that either director could slot into. The last film to release in theaters for Lucasfilms was The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. If 2025 is the soonest we can get Star Wars into theaters again that would be a six year gap in between theatrical releases for the company.

There are unconfirmed rumors that the studio will begin to set in stone its upcoming slate at Star Wars Celebration which takes place the weekend of April 7th in london. We still have shows such as Acolyte and Skeleton Crew to look forward to as well as Jedi Survivor due to release in April 2023.
