A brand-new Star Wars book celebrating the 40th anniversary of the release of Return of the Jedi is hitting bookstores this summer.

Earlier this week, Star Wars publishing officially announced the release date for From a Certain Point of View: Return of the Jedi, the short story anthology celebrating 40 years of the 1983 Star Wars film.

The book’s 40 authors, cover, and some details of the stories included in the anthology were also revealed as part of the announcement.

There have been two previous installments of this anthology series, both released on the 40th anniversary of their respective film releases and including 40 short stories from the same number of authors. The original book, Star Wars: From a Certain Point of View, released in 2017, chronicled the events of A New Hope from the perspectives of various characters throughout the film.

The book’s sequel, From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back, released in 2020, followed the same format for Episode V. FACPOV: ROTJ will accomplish the same goal with the final movie in the original trilogy.

A handful of seasoned Star Wars authors are returning for the anthology, expected to release late this summer. Mike Chen (Brotherhood), Adam Christopher (Shadow of the Sith) and Emma Mieko Candon (Ronin) are among the returning authors with a story in this upcoming book.

As is tradition with these anthologies, many Star Wars newcomers are among the 40 writers chosen to contribute to FACPOV: ROTJ. Previously, some authors who have contributed short stories to Star Wars anthologies as their first dip into the franchise have gone on to write full-length novels. Kiersten White, for example, wrote a FACPOV: ESB story before releasing the YA novel Padawan in 2022.

Among the stories teased in the book’s announcement, StarWars.com revealed the sarlacc and Anakin Skywalker’s Force Ghost will star in their own short narratives. More details about the book will become available closer to its release.
