Tales of Light and Life: A High Republic short story anthology is coming
By Meg Dowell
A brand-new Star Wars book containing a collection of short fiction stories set in The High Republic is set to release later this year.
Earlier this month, EW revealed the cover and authors for the anthology, titled Star Wars The High Republic: Tales of Light and Life, which was previously announced late last year. The anthology will feature short stories from the publishing initiative’s “Luminous Authors” — Zoraida Cordova, Tessa Gratton, Claudia Gray, Justina Ireland, Lydia Kang, George Mann, Daniel Jose Older, Cavan Scott, and Charles Soule.
While The High Republic publishing initiative originally began with five authors, Tessa Gratton, Lydia Kang, Zoraida Cordova, and George Mann joined the team for Phase II in 2022.
Speaking about the upcoming anthology, set to release later this summer, Lucasfilm Publishing Creative Director Michael Siglain said Tales of Light and Life will include stories from different phases of The High Republic and will fill in some gaps between the initiative’s various novels and comics.
"“[The book] features all of our High Republic authors in one novel and includes stories from every Phase of the initiative. We’ll get glimpses of stories yet to come, see events that happened in between our novels and comics, shine a spotlight on certain characters, and even learn the fate of others. I think fans will find it both exciting and unexpected.”"
The High Republic, which officially launched with its first book in 2021, has since expanded from books and comics into manga, audio dramas, and short stories. It has added new authors and grown the Star Wars universe beyond what many ever imagined possible through a publishing initiative.
And with the upcoming Disney+ series The Acolyte allegedly taking place near the end of the same era, The High Republic could become even more impactful to the larger Star Wars story than it has already been.
Star Wars The High Republic: Tales of Light and Life releases on September 5, 2023 wherever you get your Star Wars books.
