WARNING: The following contains SPOILERS for The Bad Batch Season 2, Episode 13: “Pabu.”
Phee has just discovered that Clone Force 99 has cut off their communications with Cid — and though this could cause problems for them in the future, she’s much more interested in helping Omega and the Dad Batch. Especially since they helped her first.
She takes them to Pabu, a planet made up largely of water with an inhabited island where many refugees have fled and started new lives.
The team meets the island’s leader and his daughter, who becomes instant friends with Omega since they’re about the same age. Everything seems to be going well. But in Star Wars, it’s when things seem good that everything starts going wrong.
Thankfully, the pending threat to the island and its inhabitants isn’t the Empire — just, you know, a giant tidal wave that could wipe out part of the village and endanger everyone living in the lower segment of Pabu. No big deal. Totally.
So the Batch helps those in the lower part of the island get to safety on higher ground, and thankfully everyone survives the flooding. It will take some time to rebuild, but the refugees on the island seem to prefer living this way in favor of the tragedies and dangers they fled from.
Even in a sort of paradise, not everything is good all the time. It’s your community that helps you through the tough times. It’s the people you surround yourself with that make life livable.
The group decides to settle on Pabu. At least, for a moment, perhaps they’re hoping they can escape the tangled web of mistrust and danger they’ve been trying to free themselves from all this time.
But it won’t last. Something is going to force the Batch off of Pabu before season’s end, and it’s a little scary to consider what — or whom — that might be.
