Season 3 of The Mandalorian took an unexpected turn when Bo Katan ended up being redeemed along with Din Djarin. The Armorer offered her a chance to join her covert and the other Mandalorians welcomed her with open arms. What came as a surprise for all those watching, Bo Katan ended up joining Din Djarin and as of now, is following “The Way”, which includes keeping her helmet on at all times when in the presence of any others.

In Chapter 20, “The Foundling” the Mandalorians all left to eat dinner separately, leaving Bo Katan on her own. It’s not something she’s used to herself. None of them can eat together as it requires removing your helmet. Once she was left alone, Bo Katan took her helmet off, but it seemed obvious based on her expressions that this setup was uncomfortable for her.

This is only the beginning. There will be several other situations where she might find herself feeling suffocated because she won’t be able to remove her helmet and make any eye contact with others. How long can someone like Bo Katan continue to live this way? She hasn’t followed any rules for most of her life. Right now she’s alone because her friends abandoned her after she returned without the Darksaber. But it’s one thing to be alone, and another to feel alone even when you’re with others, and life for Mandalorians following The Way is like that.

Bo Katan and Din Djarin are two very different people and products of their upbringing. It will be extremely suffocating for her to try and live the way Din does. He removed his helmet for Grogu, but the rules of The Creed are so rigid that even protecting the life of your foundling doesn’t qualify as a strong enough reason for removing your helmet. With that being the case, Bo Katan is bound to want out sooner rather than later.

It’s nice to have friends. but not at the expense of losing your freedom, and in many ways, followers of The Way sacrifice some amount of their freedom when they swear to the Creed. It’s reasonable to put your money on Bo Katan making a run for it very soon, and leaving these rigid rules behind her, the question is when.

Will Bo Katan continue to stick to the rules, or will she  decide that this is all too much for her? Perhaps she’s is already plotting her exit and fans are yet to be given a clue as to what she’s plotting.

Season 3 of The Mandalorian continues to stream exclusively on Disney+.
