Saw Gerrera is heading back to Andor
By Meg Dowell
If you were hoping to see Saw Gerrera in live-action Star Wars again, great news! The character is expected to return in Andor‘s second season, which should release sometime in 2024 on Disney+.
Forest Whitaker, in an interview with ComicBook.com, was asked whether or not he could say Saw Gerrera would be making his grand Andor return next season.
“Oh yeah, it’s safe to say that,” the actor said. Actors are used to revealing just enough information about upcoming projects to satisfy audiences without (most of the time) getting in trouble for saying too much. His response implied what it needed to, and nothing more.
Whitaker has both voiced and portrayed the character in most of his appearances in Star Wars — in everything from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story to Jedi: Fallen Order and, of course, in Andor. The character first appeared in Star Wars: The Clone Wars in several episodes. He has since become a key character in the era leading up to the Galactic Civil War.
Saw played a small but impactful role in Andor‘s first season, leaning into his tendency to take extreme measures when confronting the Empire and its shady dealings. The show digs deep into more sinister themes woven throughout the Star Wars universe, showing how far even members of the Alliance will go to bring hope and light to the galaxy.
Since Andor Season 2 is expected to lead up to the events of Rogue One in terms of timeline, we will likely see Saw descending even further into his obsession with taking the Empire down his own way. In the movie, we see where that leads him.
Andor will return for a second and final season in 2024, exclusively on Disney+.
