Mark Hamill gives Cameron Monaghan some pointers ahead of Jedi: Survivor
By Meg Dowell
If we’re being honest, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor doesn’t need the volume of promotion it’s getting: Players who devoured the first game, which came out over three years ago, have had the sequel pre-ordered now for months.
But that didn’t stop some of the most beloved “Jedi” in a galaxy far, far away from coming together for an epic, though brief, crossover anyway.
In a genuinely wholesome advertisement for the upcoming game, actors Cameron Monaghan and Mark Hamill — who have both portrayed Jedi in the Star Wars franchise — do their best to “train” each other on the tasks they know best.
A blindfolded Monaghan tries to deflect pieces of popcorn Hamill throws at him. Hamill gets grumpy that he never got two lightsabers. It’s a delight from start to finish.
You can watch the video from the official Star Wars account below.
While Hamill spends most of the video training Monaghan in the ways of the Force, it ends with the latter trying to show the former how to play the game he stars in. Hamill is not impressed.
“I really don’t need you to explain the Force to me,” Hamill says. He’s not wrong.
Monaghan not only voices Cal Kestis in Respawn’s Jedi games — he also does the motion capture work, and the character model is based off his body and face. He hasn’t been part of Star Wars nearly as long as Luke Skywalker himself, but perhaps he can teach Hamill a thing or two about video game controller buttons (or not).
And just in case you’re wondering … when people say Monaghan should play Cal in live-action because “the resemblance is uncanny” … it’s a joke.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is available for pre-order, and will release on Xbox, PlayStation 5, and PC April 28, 2023.
