Respawn’s Stig Asmussen breaks down Jedi: Survivor’s companion gameplay
By Meg Dowell
The release of the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order sequel has finally arrived! Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is out into the world for fans and players to enjoy, and based on early reviews of the experience, this game clearly has a lot of fun things to offer its audience.
While the game will retain a lot of things people loved about the original game — many of the characters are set to return, and some of the gameplay mechanics will carry over — some new things are waiting for players as well.
In an exclusive interview with StarWars.com, game director Stig Asmussen offered more details on the Characters In Gameplay system introduced in Jedi: Survivor. In the game, characters have “companions” — it’s still a single-player experience, but Cal, for example, won’t always be fighting or solving puzzles alone.
“This is a big deal for us,” Asmussen said. “It’s a huge step in the evolution of the game. We always are looking for new ways to tell story, and we wanted to make sure that we could carry some of these companions into gameplay.”
Asmussen went on to explain that in the middle of game combat, for example, players can call on their allies to assist, which offers special bonuses in the battle.
“Using these types of buddy tools will help the players negotiate tricky scenarios in combat,” he concluded. So what he’s saying is that this game is going to present tons of challenges, much like the first, but solvable puzzles and methods of defeating enemies presented in a new way.
Many surprises await inside this game, and the good news is, you can play it right now (with the right console and funds necessary to purchase, of course).
