Last year’s most anticipated Star Wars show was without a doubt Obi-Wan Kenobi, and it deserves to be given a second season. The Kenobi series premiered in May of last year after over two years of anticipation following its announcement, which included confirmation that Hayden Christensen would be making his return as Darth Vader and Anakin Skywalker, along with Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi.

It’s hard to satisfy every fan, and some did have complaints about the series. However, that’s why it deserves to be given a second season. The show had a limited series format and only six episodes to get to the point, and with that taken into consideration, it did a pretty good job of showing Obi-Wan as a man who was utterly defeated, finally forgiving himself and attaining some level of inner peace.

The show’s high points came whenever Obi-Wan and Vader ended up face to face. The prequel-style lightsaber dueling did not disappoint and Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen seemed to have picked up exactly where they left off at the end of Episode III- Revenge of the Sith. The acting by the duo in the finale was outstanding, as were the performances of the rest of the cast as well, including little Vivian Lyra Blair and Moses Ingram.

The show ended by showing Obi-Wan in a relatively content place, back on Tatooine and ready to reconnect with his master, Qui Gon Jinn and that’s where a second season can start from. Whatever Qui Gon taught him in the years leading up to A New Hope is worth exploring in detail, and a second season can be a great opportunity to show the bond between Obi-Wan and young Luke developing. There’s also a chance for more prequel-era flashbacks, including ones with Anakin, and those Clone Wars-era flashbacks that many fans expected during the series.

Ewan McGregor is beyond ready to do a second season and has said so multiple times, including at this year’s Star Wars Celebration in London. Hayden Christensen would also be interested to return and they both loved working together again after so many years.

The show was overall extremely successful in terms of viewership for Disney+, and there’s really no reason to not go for another season, especially when it can be a great way to give more of what worked in the series and fix what didn’t, and show more about Obi-Wan’s life until Episode IV. Hopefully, the series will be given a second season very soon.
