Ahsoka is next the next Star Wars series on the radar this year and Dave Filoni has explained that it is very much a continuation of Rebels, and can be thought of as Rebels Season 5. Star Wars Rebels Season 4 ended by showing Ahsoka and Sabine all set to go on their way in search of Ezra Bridger. Based on Ahsoka’s appearance in the epilogue where she’s in all white, it seems some time passed between the end of Season 4 and the epilogue.

Sabine is shown on Lothal, Ezra’s home planet, looking at the mural she made of the Ghost Crew while Ahsoka waits for her. The series ends with Sabine telling the audiences that “It’s time to bring Ezra Bridger home”, and that’s where Ahsoka picks up from. When asked if Ahsoka is indeed a 5th season of Rebels, Filoni said “I suppose that’s one way of looking at it, because of the epilogue that I did in Rebels. Definitely all signs are indicating that there’s a continuation.”

The official trailer of the Ahsoka series makes it quite obvious that the show is every bit a continuation of Rebels. It marks the live action debut of all its main characters, including the main villain of the series, Grand Admiral Thrawn, who will be portrayed by Larks Mikkelsen, who voiced the clever blue Admiral in the series.

The series will focus on the search for Ezra Bridger played by Eman Esfandi, as well as continuing to focus on Ahsoka as a character, making it quite likely that the show may delve into her own past as a Padawan of Anakin Skywalker. Hayden Christensen has been rumored to return, and while this hasn’t been officially confirmed just yet, his reaction to questions about the series all but gave it away it at last year’s Star Wars Celebration.

Ahsoka stars Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano, Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla and Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger. It premieres this August on Disney+.
