May is a big month for Star Wars anniversaries. Wheel of Fortune closed out the month’s festivities with a Star Wars-themed episode Tuesday night.

The long-running game show often runs themes for nights or weeks’ worth of shows. Last night, contestants dressed in Star Wars attire and/or wielded lightsabers as they competed to solve puzzles. One of the contestants even had their hair done in Princess Leia-style buns.

Not all the questions were specifically Star Wars-themed — that would be something better suited for a game night on the Galactic Starcruiser, at least while it’s still running (too soon?). But the show did its best to honor a galaxy far, far away, and the best news of all is that someone still got to go home a winner.

A large percentage of the Star Wars films have released in May, including the original movie’s anniversary on May 25. The Star Wars movies released in May (so far) include:

  • A New Hope (May 25, 1977)
  • The Empire Strikes Back (May 21, 1980)
  • Return of the Jedi (May 25, 1983)
  • The Phantom Menace (May 19, 1999)
  • Attack of the Clones (May 16, 2002)
  • Revenge of the Sith (May 19, 2005)
  • Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25, 2018)

Every year, fans also celebrate May the 4th (May the “Fourth” be with you) with Star Wars-themed merchandise, food, viewing parties, and more. George Lucas — the creator of Star Wars — also celebrates his birthday in May — May 14, to be exact.

Some people also acknowledge “Revenge of the Fifth” (on May 5) though most of us are too tired from May 4’s festivities to continue the celebration much beyond leftover Star Wars-themed treats.

May is now coming to a close, but the good news is we get to celebrate our love of Star Wars every month of the year!
