Andor creator Tony Gilroy was also a writer on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the stand alone movie about Rebel Jyn Erso and Captain Cassian Andor’s mission to Scarif to retrieve the Death Star Plans. Recently, Gilroy revealed that he received a surprise after Rogue One, in the form of a phone call from the maker himself, George Lucas. Lucas called Gilroy not just to inform the writer that he had seen Rogue One, but apparently, to let him know that he absolutely loved it.

"“George Lucas called me after Rogue, I had a 45-minute conversation with him after he saw Rogue, and that’s the only time I’ve ever spoken to him. He loved it. He really did. He had a lot of things to say that I… It was like a call from the president.”"

Gilroy didn’t reveal the exact contents of that 45 minute long discussion, but it sounds like George loved the movie so much, he couldn’t possibly convey how he felt in a couple of minutes, he needed much longer.  If he loved Rogue One, then he probably liked Andor quite a bit as well, as Gilroy is the writer on the series which follows Cassian Andor’s life before becoming a Captain in the Rebellion to overthrow the Empire.

It’s not too surprising that George was pleased with Rogue One, since the movie is quite the emotional ride and fits in seamlessly as a prequel to A New Hope, and even adds more significance to the events of the film that kickstarted the Skywalker Saga back in the day. There’s plenty of attention to detail, something Lucas is famous for, and some exceptional moments involving characters like Darth Vader and Tarkin, and even Princess Leia Organa.

Gilroy said the experience of receiving a call from Lucas was like getting “a call from the President”. Nothing can possibly top getting appreciation with a glowing review from the maker himself. A job well done, indeed,  by Tony Gilroy and everyone else involved in the making of Rogue One.

Rogue One is streaming on Disney+.
