LGBTQIA+ Star Wars podcasts by and for queer fans
June is Pride Month in recognition of the Stonewall Riots of 1969, which is considered one of the major catalysts for kicking off the gay rights movement not just in the United States but around the world as well. While Pride is a celebration, it’s also a protest.
Protest is the keyword there, and pushing back against a rising negative sentiment online is important. Just looking at the response to The Acolyte from certain so-called “fans” reveal that queer voices are needed more than ever in a Star Wars fandom. These bigots don’t want LGBTQIA+ people or fans in their space fantasy.
I hate to break it to you, sweetie, but we’ve always been here. Queer people helped make Star Wars dating back to the original trilogy. This isn't a new fad with Leslye Headland. We have always been here.
We’re not leaving either. I'm not going anywhere. If you're reading anything on Dork Side of the Force, just know this site is run by an openly queer woman who edits and oversees the day-to-day. You cannot get rid of me. You cannot get rid of LGBTQIA+ people. Run your grift all you want, but it's not going to do any good.
