Mara Jade

Our next candidate is one of the most popular characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era of Legends, Mara Jade Skywalker.

There are many reasons to consider Mara Jade as a possible Inquisitor in the upcoming Ahsoka series.

Firstly, is the strong links that Dave Filoni appears to be making with the ‘Mandoverse’ that has been created through the various Disney+ TV series, which will culminate with a movie in the near future, and the Legends storyline of Heir to the Empire.

Heir to the Empire released in 1991 and saw the very first introduction to the character of Grand Admiral Thrawn, who is a central character in Rebels and a focal point of Ahsoka’s journey in her self-titled live-action series.

Along with Thrawn, Mara Jade also made her first-ever appearance in the form of a Hand of the Emperor, an assassin tasked with taking out Rebels and corrupt Imperials alike. While it would be a reworking of her role in the galaxy, making her an effective Inquisitor could certainly fit into the narrative.

Her link with Thrawn is there, and she could be written as an Inquisitor in his employ, with the opportunity for her character to play a pivotal role in both the Ahsoka series and future movie, which is rumoured to be titled Heir to the Empire.

While she would simply be Mara Jade, with her future relationship with Luke Skywalker no longer canon and likely needing to be reworked, it would be great to see such a popular character brought back into canon and in live-action form, opening up plenty of future opportunities for her in other media.
