Star Wars Outlaws could be the first hit post-EA exclusive deal

Star Wars: Outlaws has been the talk of the town in the gaming community. The once EA exclusive deal has ended and other publishers can now create their own Star Wars games. Ubisoft, known for games like the acclaimed Assassin’s Creed and Watch Dogs, seemingly has a hit on their hands.
With games like Grand Theft Auto: V being as popular as they are still in the gaming community, it’s no wonder Outlaws is being compared to it. First shown at the Xbox games summer fest, Ubisoft waited until their own showcase to really give us the extended gameplay trailer. Outlaws takes place between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. While Ubisoft nor Lucasfilm have confirmed this game will be cannon like the recently released Jedi: Survivor and Jedi: Fallen Order, the last 10 years all the games published under the EA exclusivity deal have been listed as official cannon in the Star Wars Universe.
Star Wars: Outlaws follows Kay Vess, a young woman that the publisher is labeling a “scoundrel.” This could be a fresh take from the Kal Kestus storyline like we had in the Jedi games that have more combat like FromSoft’s Dark Souls series that focuses more on punishing enemies and precision timing. Outlaws looks like a game that is a breath of fresh air from the punishing gameplay that has been coming out from the likes of Jedi: Survivor and Elden Ring.
However, Outlaws does take a few things from recent Star Wars content including a small friend who’s named Nix who takes the place of BD-1 from the Jedi series and some even compare him to Grogu from The Mandalorian.
More importantly, this game looks to provide a sandbox that gives the player complete control over how to explore the world and they want to do. Vess seems to be a character that is full of life and the world is something that gamers have been looking for in a Star Wars game for many years since EA has taken over.
So far all we know is that Star Wars: Outlaws will be releasing sometime in 2024.
