Moff Gideon not dead after all? Giancarlo Esposito teases the possibilities
Giancarlo Esposito has never shied away from dishing on what’s to come on The Mandalorian, and in a new interview with The Wrap, Esposito hinted that Moff Gideon may not be dead after all.
The finale of The Mandalorian Season 3 made Gideon’s death seem a little too easy. His return was teased throughout the season, after he escaped New Republic custody before he could be put on trial for his crimes. That seemed to hint that this time his return may pose an even bigger threat to Din and Grogu, and all of Mandalore. Considering that, the threat was diffused rather quickly. Along with Gideon, it seems hundreds of his clones were also destroyed on Mandalore.
However, Esposito has offered hope for anyone who wishes to see Gideon return.
"“I know nothing about Season 4. Jon hasn’t tipped his hat to me. So many fans are like, ‘You were a clone, right?’ It could be. I trust Jon knows what he’s doing.”"
This may not seem too surprising, because even through Gideon seemed to stand no chance at the end, no dead body was shown in the episode. Giancarlo also said that he’s fine with having his character return from the dead repeatedly.
"“I would love to keep dying and coming back. That’d be my favorite thing of all. There are a lot of ways to go and I’m open to whatever they have in play.”"
It sounds more and more like we will be seeing Gideon again at some point, either in Season 4 of The Mandalorian beyond that. Based on Esposito’s comments, Gideon’s arc doesn’t seem finished. However, anyone who’s opposed to the idea of a character repeatedly returning from the dead can probably breathe a sigh of relief over the fact that overall, the show and Mandoverse as a whole will probably have an even bigger threat to face off against in the shape of Grand Admiral Thrawn.
Gideon can return with his own plans, separate from whatever Thrawn has in mind, or join hands with Grand Admiral Thrawn. Meanwhile, The Mandalorian Season 4 is currently a few months away from filming, depending on several factors such as the WGA strike, but as soon as the filming gets underway, tidbits regarding the plot will undoubtedly be revealed.
The Mandalorian is streaming on Disney+.
