At Star Wars Celebration 2023, Lucasfilm announced the upcoming release of three brand new Star Wars films to be canon to the rest of the universe. There is one movie in particular revolving around the idea of the New Jedi Order and will focus heavily on Rey Skywalker, played by Daisy Ridley. This movie will be set roughly 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker.

What villains will be introduced in Rey’s New Jedi Order movie?!

Before we get into what villains are rumored to be introduced in this film, let’s learn a little history lesson about the term New Jedi Order and why it will hold so much significance to Rey.

Back in 1999, Del Ray came out with their own brand new launch of Star Wars novels that dialed in on this whole idea about some New Jedi Order where all of the Jedi were facing a brand new threat that they had to fight off. In said novels, although it’s not canon to the current Star Wars universe, there were some pretty scary and important villains called The Yuuzhan Vong.

Originally, The Yuuzhan Vong was banished for committing certain crimes against the Force. “They posed a unique threat to the Jedi, both on a physical and philosophical level, because they did not appear to exist in the Force”. They were also very notable for their use of unusual biotechnology as they believed that machines were heretical in nature and instead used creatures of more so the organic types.

Since then, The Yuuzhan Vong can be described as some of the most iconic Star Wars villains. In 2012, once Disney bought Lucasfilm, these super scary villains were not granted canon status and will probably remain in said status forever. According to Screen Rant, The Yuuzhan Vong were actually supposed to make their way into the show The Clone Wars, but never did. Here’s more about that:

"“They actually almost made their way into canon in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, although George Lucas and Dave Filoni planned to modify them by removing the idea they were absent in the Force. This arc was never made, meaning the Yuuzhan Vong are still non-canon. Still, some of the creatures they used have recently been referenced, notably the Yuuzhan Vong’s vonduun crab armor.”"

There are many reasons why people are wanting to see these villains return in Rey’s movie. One of them being that the age-old battle between the Jedi and the Sith just seems so repetitive to some people, and while not all people feel that way, it’s certainly understandable. There are also many rumors that if, and that’s a big if these villains return, they would no longer be known as ‘void’ or ‘non-existent’ in the world and probably be some sort of tangible being, however they might.
