The Mandalorian kicked started Star Wars‘ move into the television streaming world. It’s done wonders for Disney+, and the shows success has allowed for a handful of Star Wars series to go into production, including some that take place in the same timeline as The Mandalorian. These Mandalorian spinoffs include The Book Of Boba Fett, Skeleton Crew and Ahsoka. While every series has had a worthy protagonist, undoubtedly Din Djarin is one of the jewels in Disney’s crown at the moment.
Along with Grogu, Din’s popularity is seen during comic book conventions, Star Wars Celebrations, and even on Tik Tok. Fans love to dress up as Mando, and the series has put up impressive numbers so far in terms of audience demand and viewership. Pedro Pascal has risen to new heights and has just starred as the lead in another hit series, The Last Of Us. He is a star, and deserves to be one, with a commanding on screen presence, and a voice which is synonymous with the now extremely popular bounty hunter he portrays. To add to that, Pascal is now a 3 time Emmy nominee, including for best lead actor in a drama series for The Last Of Us.
This stardom makes Pascal’s Din Djarin deserving of the spotlight in Filoni’s upcoming film. Unlike the sequel trilogy which had the likes of Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford’s names attached to it, Filoni’s movie is bringing together names and characters that are newer entries into the Star Wars galaxy. However, since films are often led by multiple leads, a very solid case can be made for having Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano as the other main lead of Filoni’s film.
With the way the Mandoverse is shaping up, it seems Ahsoka will be in the center of the action. She’s on the hunt for Grand Admiral Thrawn, and since he has been confirmed by Dave Filoni to be the main bad guy of this era, Ahsoka will be thrust into the spotlight. Her massive popularity helps, and many fans have grown up watching her. Ahsoka has a rich backstory which starts in the prequel era and continues to live action in the New Republic era. She is in many ways a bridge between the old and new eras of Star Wars. Someone like Ahsoka who was taught by legendary characters like Anakin, Obi Wan and Yoda, and is now friends with Luke Skywalker himself, plus the entire Ghost Crew, has quite the history with everyone from the past and present.
Depending on the success of the Ahsoka series, and if it brings in numbers similar to The Mandalorian, there’s no doubt the Filoni movie should focus on Din Djarin and Ahsoka’s points of views. Djarin will be helping the New Republic hunt down Imperial Remnants, which means he could easily end up with Ahsoka and the Ghost Crew on a much larger mission, to track down a more dangerous enemy.
Rosario Dawson and Pedro Pascal could be the Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford, or the Felicity Jones and Diego Luna of the Filoni film and provide the acting chops and stardom needed, plus the already huge fanbases for their characters. This could even guarantee that the movie is a blockbuster. It’s likely that Filoni’s film will be full of cameos and have a large ensemble cast consisting of every possible character alive during the era, but when it comes to who should be the glue holding it all together, Din and Ahsoka seem like the perfect characters to be at the center the Mandoverse movie.
Ahsoka premieres next month on Disney+. Meanwhile Filoni’s film hasn’t gone into production yet and is likely at least 2-3 years away.
