Star Wars reveals official profile for Ahsoka’s mysterious new Inquisitor
The trailer for Ahsoka gave us exciting looks at various familiar and unfamiliar characters, including a double red bladed, lightsaber wielding Inquisitor, clad in armor from head to toe. The name of this Inquisitor was later revealed to be Marrok, and he’s played by Paul Darnell. Now, there’s an official Star Wars character profile for Marrok that reveals more details about the character’s past and present.
Ahsoka’s no stranger to Inquisitors. Since the fall of the Republic, she hid from the Empire for years, and faced a number of Inquisitors who were no match for her abilities. She easily defeated them, however, Marrok may pose a new challenge for her. The mystery around this character has made fans speculate if he’s someone from Ahsoka’s past, someone familiar. The head to toe armor is a genius way to heighten speculation. Just like several other imposing masked characters in Star Wars, such as Darth Vader, Boba Fett and Din Djarin, Marrok’s real identity is being carefully kept under wraps.
According to the new character profile,
"“Once an Inquisitor hunting Jedi for the Empire, the mysterious Marrok now works as a mercenary hired by Morgan Elsbeth to carry out dark deeds. Fully encased in battered battle armor, the warrior still carries a red double-bladed saber with a circular hilt.”"
Some fans have even gone as far as to speculate that Marrok could really be Ezra Bridger. That would certainly be a shocker. Marrok having a link to Ahsoka’s past and perhaps turning out to be someone she knew, and even fans knew, would add emotional weight to his character. He’s been hired by Morgan Elsbeth whom fans will recognize as the ruthless Magistrate from The Mandalorian, Chapter 13 “The Jedi”.
Ahsoka has a number of new, compelling negative characters ready to make their debut including Shin Hati, Baylan Skol and Marrok, but she’s defeated so many bad guys during her journey so far, that these have to be the her toughest opponents yet.
What else does the series hold, and what role will Marrok play in the rising threat of war in the Galaxy as the return of Thrawn draws nearer? Fans won’t have to wait much longer for the answers to these questions.
Ahsoka is premiering August 23 on Disney+.
