Before Disney outright bought Lucasfilm, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed was a popular Star Wars video game that told a compelling story to its players. Before the days of the resurrected Darth Maul, Sam Witwer voiced the character of a young Galen Marek. Merek was groomed and trained by Darth Vader to become a fierce force wielder in the galaxy. Merek eventually took on another name as Vader’s apprentice and was primarily known as Starkiller.
The Force Unleashed saga lasted two games. Since 2010, there hasn’t been any update on Starkiller’s return, and many fans of the game wonder where he may show up next. Additionally, there seems to be interest in an interaction between Anakin Skywalker’s apprentice and Darth Vader’s apprentice.
Questions regarding Starkiller and Ahsoka meeting for the first time in the canon could fill an entire room. Would they quickly come to realize they served the same master? Would Ahsoka feel remorse towards Starkiller? Would they become and stay enemies? There’s also the fact that we haven’t seen this character in the post-Empire era. One can only wonder what kind of man Starkiller has turned into after Vader’s reign of terror ended. Questions like these are all the more reason why adding this character to the series would open up a plethora of possibilities.
The Ahsoka series seems to have a rather action-packed plot with multiple factors and characters. That may make it difficult for Starkiller to be baked into the plot. However, theories have been piling up regarding the identity of a certain masked individual that has been spotted in the Ahsoka trailer. Lucasfilm has currently named this character Marrok, but many believe someone of deep importance is still hiding behind that mask.
Ironically, Starkiller’s armor from his origins bares a striking resemblance to the masked character we see in the Ahsoka trailer. While multiple theories suggest different scenarios, some still believe this is a new character made specifically for the series. This isn’t the first time a character like this bursts on the live-action scene as Reeva debuted in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series last year.
If Starkiller is to be reintroduced, many wonder if Sam Witwer will be reprising his role in live-action. Witwer hasn’t spoken on anything Starkiller related as he’s had much success and fan recognition from his more significant role as the voice of Darth Maul. However, a significant section of fans (myself included) want to see the apprentice finally canonized in the Star Wars universe.
