Star Wars canon that would make great video games

Star Wars canon is full of rich characters and deep storylines that few people have heard of and are ripe for the picking.

There are over 150 hours of streaming content for Star Wars on Disney+, including Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars: The Clone Wars. There are also countless books and comics to keep you occupied for many years if you decide to read them all.

Lately, video games have been getting plenty of attention, and for good reason. Despite the EA deal falling flat on its face after 10 years, there were a few standout games, specifically the Jedi games with Cal Kestus.

But I think a few games could be great if we gave them a chance, and I may even offer up a developer or a publisher to do them.

A Thrawn RTS Developed by Creative Assembly

Real-time strategy games have become increasingly more popular as time has gone on. Age of Empires and even Halo Wars have gained popularity as gaming technology has come into play. Halo has always been synonymous with technology advancement on the Xbox, and there’s a fair argument to be made that it built the Xbox console.

Capitalizing on the Grand Admiral Thrawn name with Ahsoka‘s release, I think the same team behind Halo Wars and the success it had could make a good RTS game based around Thrawn and the military mind he is. One particular book that comes to mind is Thrawn: Alliances, written by Timothy Zahn. Alliances follows Darth Vader as he teams up with Thrawn to investigate a disturbance on Batuu. I won’t fully flesh out the storyline so as not to spoil the story for you. It also has Padme Amidala and a few other characters in it too.

Creative Assembly (CA) was tasked with building the Halo Wars game for Microsoft Studios, which takes place before the events of the first Halo game. CA created one of the best Real Time Strategy (RTS) games and pushed the hardware to the limits and created not only a fun game but a beautiful game too. Creative Assembly has also been voted one of the top 5 best RTS game developers, according to Metacritic by fans.

Bounty Hunter game published by Rockstar games

Some of the best Star Wars content is in the comics, and it’s not very widely known. One of the best comic lines is Star Wars: Bounty Hunters by Ethan Sacks. The comic line takes place in between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. The characters featured in this are Boba Fett, Bossk, and Beilert Valance.

The story has betrayal, infighting, and gives us Boba Fett as we want to see him. One of the most underused characters in all of Star Wars canon is Bossk. Seeing Bossk in action and confirming this story as canon got me interested in this comic line too.

RockStar Games would be the perfect developer for this game. Seeing as how they took Grand Theft Auto: V and turned those three storylines into something beautiful and cohesive, I think they would do great with something like this. To pull this off, you’d need a developer who knows how to create cohesive storylines with complicated characters, give us emotional, heart-wrenching moments, and have a game engine that can support that as well. They also give creative freedom to their studios and have minimal oversight, and they also have a history of ignoring calls to tone down the violence.

Darth Vader line by FromSoftware

It’s no secret that one of my favorite gaming franchises is the Dark Souls series. Fromsoft has always put the utmost care and touch into their games. The unofficial slogan of “Git gud,” slang for “Get good,” is something you’ll often hear in the Dark Souls community. Combine that with who I think is the greatest cinematic character of all time, Darth Vader, and you have a combo that could win some serious awards.

The Darth Vader comic line follows Vader immediately after the events of Revenge of the Sith. Anakin is grappling with what he has become and what he believes is his murder of Padme and his children. Vader also creates the Inquisitors and trains them. There are appearances by Boba Fett, Black Krrsantan, and Bossk. Fromsoft is famous for being tough but fair in game development, and seeing as how Elden Ring is an absolute masterpiece, getting them to do a Darth Vader game would be amazing.

FromSoftware is a company that treats its players like adults, and some players like that while others don’t. They are famous for leaving the convoluted stories and lore up to interpretation, while some fans even go so far as creating subreddits dedicated only to decyphering the lore and character backgrounds. They are also known for the best combat system in gaming, with a leveling system that is second to none. Combine this with the Darth Vader power as Anakin is turned loose by the Emperor, I could see myself playing this game for a long time.
