Ahsoka: Are there stormtroopers with Ezra and Thrawn?

Warning: This article contains spoilers from Episodes 4 and 5 of Ahsoka.

As the search for Ezra Bridger and Grand Admiral Thrawn continues in Ahsoka, there has been a great deal of speculation about what will happen when they are found, especially since they are in a whole other galaxy. While much of this speculation has been focused on species that may reside in the other galaxy, there is another group that may also be with Ezra and Thrawn–Imperial stormtroopers.

During the Star Wars Rebels series finale, the purrgil took the Chimaera–Thrawn’s Star Destroyer–with them when they jumped into hyperspace. Ezra and Thrawn were aboard the Chimaera, but so were the stormtroopers. While many of the stormtroopers were killed by Ezra, at least three were last seen alive before the purrgil jumped into hyperspace.

Ezra closed the blast doors to keep those stormtroopers from interfering with his plan before the purrgil made their jump. They probably weren’t the only stormtroopers still alive at the time, given the size of the Chimaera and the number of forces usually aboard an Imperial Star Destroyer (37,000 crew members, according to Wookieepedia).

If these stormtroopers survived the jump to the other galaxy and are still alive now, they could be an interesting variable in Ahsoka‘s final episodes. The easiest thing to do would have them still be loyal soldiers for Thrawn.

This will already give Thrawn a small army before needing to rebuild his forces. Wes Chatham was cast in Ahsoka as Thrawn’s right-hand man and could be a stormtrooper who has been promoted and found a new purpose since the Rebels finale.

There are also other possibilities, such as the stormtroopers now being loyal to Ezra or maybe even becoming a group that is in conflict with Ezra and Thrawn.

Ahsoka may not even address what happened to the stormtroopers after the Rebels finale to keep all the focus on Ezra and Thrawn. It is certainly plausible that any surviving stormtroopers would’ve died during the journey to the other galaxy or in the years since then.

Now that Ahsoka and Huyang are traveling to the other galaxy via the purrgil, and Sabine Wren, Morgan Elsbeth, Baylan Skoll, and Shin Hati are traveling there via the Eye of Sion, Ezra and Thrawn are closer to being found than ever before, along with some possible stormtroopers as well.
