The closer Star Wars: Ahsoka gets to its final episodes, the clearer it becomes that this unique, heartfelt series is most likely not going to end the way anyone expects it to.

Leading up to the two-episode premiere of the show, viewers didn’t really know what they were in for. Some took the possibility of strapping in for a Star Wars Rebels “sequel” and ran with it. Others speculated about how much of Grand Admiral Thrawn’s return might mirror his Legends origins.

What the series has given us so far is a mix of elements many predicted and surprises most couldn’t have dreamed of. And that’s not a bad thing. Some of the best Star Wars out there, even when slightly predictable, has involved taking fans on unexpected journeys. In storytelling, not all twists are bad twists.

Last week’s Ahsoka episode set up the final three installments of the show by establishing some of the next steps for its main characters — but not all of those steps or where they’ll lead to are clear. That’s by design. Our heroes are embarking on separate paths that will force them to learn, overcome, and grow.

How Thrawn will play into all this, this far in, is truly a mystery we can’t wait to uncover together.
