How old is Qi’ra in Star Wars?

Emilia Clarke is Qi’ra and Alden Ehrenreich is Han Solo in SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY.

Star Wars fans first met Qi’ra in 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story and its companion novels, the film novelization and Rae Carson’s Most Wanted. She has recently appeared in multiple Marvel comics, most recently Crimson Reign and Hidden Empire.

This week, Qi’ra’s story continues — or rather, more gaps in her story are being filled in — in E.K. Johnston’s novel Crimson Climb.

The book begins shortly after Han and Qi’ra are separated in Solo. Which might bring back a question you may have had several times over the past five years: How old is Qi’ra when we first meet her in Star Wars?

Qi’ra was born on Corellia in 31 BBY. She grew up as part of the White Worms and was eventually sold into slavery, which led her to become part of Crimson Dawn. She would later become a crime lord herself.

Solo: A Star Wars Story takes place between the years of 13 BBY and 10 BBY, which would have made Qi’ra about18 years old at the beginning of Solo (and about 21 by the time she and Han reunite later in the film).

In Rae Carson’s Most Wanted novel, set in the year 13 BBY, Qi’ra was also 18 years old.

E.K. Johnston’s novel takes place between the prelude and the remainder of the Solo movie, making Qi’ra about 18 or 19 years old.

This just goes to show how much both Han and Qi’ra were forced to overcome at a very young age. I don’t know what you were doing at 18, but I sure wasn’t running for my life through the streets of Corellia trying to escape being thrown into slavery and getting tied up with crime syndicates.

Star Wars: Crimson Climb by E.K. Johnston releases Tuesday, October 10 in physical, digital, and audio formats wherever you get your Star Wars books.
