The newly released Ahsoka series was the continuation of yet another beautiful Star Wars story. Not only did creator Dave Fioni manage to tell a self-contained story, but also was able to plant the seeds for a follow-up story as well. The series concluded with a major cliffhanger and many questions from the audience. Thankfully, this will likely not be the last we see of these characters.

Earlier this year at Star Wars Celebration, it was announced by Lucasfilm that Dave Filoni was tasked with directing his own feature Star Wars film. Not only that, but this film is set to take place during the Post-Empire era, Filoni’s area of expertise after working on projects like The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka.  Since this film is shaping up to be a conclusion to the Mandoverse Saga, expect to see many big characters from past projects all team up together to combat Thrawn, Avengers: Endgame style.

Because of when the story is set to take place, Filoni has already given himself all the tools necessary to make a memorable film. Undoubtedly, characters from this time period, like Din Djarin and Grogu, will appear in this upcoming film. However, the main story will most likely focus on an antagonist that neither character has yet to encounter.

Ahsoka officially ended with Grand Admiral Thrawn’s triumph. His return to his home galaxy spells death and destruction for millions of people. This isn’t exactly an angle that Filoni seems ready to abandon just yet. There’s still so much of Thrawn’s story to be told, especially with dark magic at his beck and call with help from the Great Mothers. While it’s not confirmed, Thrawn’s success almost definitely tells us that he will continue to be the “Big Bad” of the Filoni Saga.

While Thrawn plans his next move, the return of Ezra Bridger is another potential focal point in Filoni’s upcoming film. After being stranded for years, the Jedi has much work to do, as the New Republic will soon need all the help they can get. Ironically, Thrawn and Ezra never encountered each other in this series, which Filoni could have intentionally put off for the future film. Now that both characters have returned home, the stage could be set for a jaw-dropping reunion.

The one difficult factor in predicting this new film is speculating how Ahsoka and Sabine will organically fit into the movie. Because the duo is currently stuck on Peridea, many wonder if Ahsoka Tano will miss this future film. However, it hasn’t been confirmed or denied whether or not Ahsoka will be getting a Season 2. If a Season 2 were to occur, it would surely help clear up some questions on the way to Filoni’s new film. If not, Filoni will probably find a way to tie their story into his upcoming film, perhaps involving Ezra venturing back to rescue the two stranded soldiers.

Ahsoka’s return will likely be crucial to the film’s story, especially if Filoni plans to include Luke Skywalker. The two have a brief history seen in the The Book of Boba Fett. Additionally, Ahsoka seems likely to want to fight alongside Luke after her childhood adventures with his father Anakin Skywalker.

Speculation aside, Filoni’s new movie could answer nearly all the questions that the conclusion of Ahsoka begged. Thrawn’s return seems like a permanent move to reestablish the Empire and give the New Republic a villain to conquer.
